A frantic 4:47 a.m. call pulls journalist Cassandra Reeve to a bloodstained pier along the Hudson River, where the body of Victor Hale lies waiting. He is the first of two victims, and someone has been orchestrating their deaths around Cassandra's own life for years. Teaming with NYPD Captain Roberta Chen and the skeptical Detective Marcus Webb, Cassandra retraces Hale's final hours through a Manhattan power broker, a retired forensic expert, and a grieving sister who may know more than she admits. Each clue points toward a clandestine network trading in secrets, and toward a captor waiting in a nameless warehouse who seems to know Cassandra's every move. When an aging witness finally names the conspiracy's architect, Cassandra is forced to choose between walking away with her life and walking into a trap designed to bury the truth with her.
