The glass core is still warm when Mara Okafor walks into 4C on Larch Street. The amber is dying, the lattice cooling from ninety-three degrees, seconds from irrecoverable. Under it: a body. Blood. The name Doss. And a core that should hold his final moments, zeroed to absolute null by someone who knew what they were destroying. Mara is a memory forensicist. She pulls the shape of a scene out of cooling glass before it collapses. But a null core has no shape. What was erased is gone. All that remains are the shadows the memory cast: Cade Torres, three blocks away when it recorded; Renn Solano, whose own playback is fragmenting; Director Yuki Tanaka, who authorized the retrieval and asks questions she shouldn't; Dr. Ilsa Venn, whose son's consciousness now exists in three simultaneous states; and the Archivist, who was never supposed to exist. The investigation is a race against thermodynamics. Every hour the lattice cools, another layer of residual data dissolves. Mara must reconstruct the scene from negative space, what is *not* in the core, while the killer keeps the gaps empty. The cartography of grief is not a map of what was lost. It is a map of who can fill the silence with a new story. Reconstruct the null memory and Mara exposes the architecture that made Doss killable. Let the core reach room temperature and the collective presence inside Aldric Venn's lattice becomes untraceable.
