Iron Silence
A fractured distress beacon pulses from the heart of the Vega-7 debris field, three beats, then nothing, repeating for nine hours and counting. Ensign Maren Vex knows the pattern. It belongs to a ship that can no longer answer for itself, and the wreckage drifting around it is the only epitaph it will ever get. When the UNSC corvette Dyrnwy is ordered to investigate on silent running, Vex and her crew slip into the field expecting to find a tomb. What they find is worse. The beacons were not casualties of the Vega-7 incident, they were left behind on purpose, luring rescue ships into a kill box that has already claimed dozens of vessels. Something is hunting in the debris, and it has learned to speak in the voices of the lost. As the Dyrnwy threads through derelict hulls with communications dark and weapons tight, Vex, Jorrik Tane, Odera Quill, and the rest of the bridge crew must determine whether the fleet's missing ships are still alive somewhere in the field, or whether answering the next pulse means joining them in the silence. One transmission. One wrong heading. And the debris field will never give up what it takes.
