The Ashford estate is still smoking when Harlan Ketch steps through the warped doorway and finds a crime scene masquerading as a tragedy. An alderman is dead in the ashes. As Ketch combs the ruins with pathologist Dr. Tomás Vega and fixer Felix Yoon, he discovers the fire didn't begin where everyone says it did. Each interview peels back another scorched layer: a missing will, a vanished ledger, a text message Lena never should have sent, and a county figure named Jett Malone whose name keeps surfacing in the wrong places. The deeper Ketch digs, the more the estate itself seems to be a witness, exhaling one final confession through the cracks. With the coroner's findings due at dawn and a second fire already smoldering in the evidence room, Ketch faces the only choice that matters: bury the truth with the alderman, or let the whole county burn down with it.
