Black Box Highway

Highway 93 north of Las Vegas is the kind of road that swallows people. Long-haul trucker Maren Castillo is rolling north with a refrigerated load when she passes an 18-wheeler idled on the shoulder and a man standing beside it who doesn't belong there. By morning, the driver is gone, the rig is empty, and Sentinel, a private security contractor with its own commandos, drones, and unmarked yard, is already sweeping the scene. When Maren discovers her truck's event recorder captured the entire encounter, she and fellow driver Toby Renn become the only people holding proof of a crime no one will admit is happening. As more drivers vanish along the same corridor, a sympathetic janitor leaks Sentinel's internal files, a veteran trucker recognizes the pattern from years back, and a federal marshal begins piecing together what the company has buried. Trooper Glen Anders wants answers his department cannot officially pursue. Maren's sister Renée, a voice actress working with Toby's archived recordings, hears something in the audio that should not be there. Sentinel dispatches operatives, drones, and a commando team to recover the black box before its contents can be entered into evidence, or aired to the families of the missing. Maren must choose between surrendering the recording for a quiet payoff or driving straight into a Senate hearing with a hard drive full of ghosts, knowing that the highway ahead is being watched and the men in the white trucks are already closing in.
