Ashes Beneath the Hollow
Eight years after driving out of Hollow Rock for the last time, Eli Marlowe returns for his mother's funeral, and finds a town that has been quietly dying in his absence. Kudzu has swallowed the county road signs, the neighbors have thinned, and the old family house waits with its doors unlocked, as if it knew he was coming. Sheriff Donnie Pritchard greets him with the same watchful silence the town has always kept, while neighbors Petra Voss and Jessup Halle speak carefully around questions no one will answer outright. As Eli and his sister Cora sift through their mother's belongings, they begin to uncover traces of a second life she never mentioned, rituals, debts, and a name that surfaces again and again in Hollow Rock's missing-persons files. Sadie Krell warns them to leave before nightfall. The entity in the house is already awake, and the sleepers beneath the hollow are stirring. To stay is to inherit what their mother kept buried. To run is to abandon every soul the town has already swallowed. Either way, the house will not let the Marlowes go quietly.
