The Hollow Beneath Briarwood

Darren Foley steps out of a taxi into the rain-slicked ruin of Briarwood Apartments, a building he never knew he owned and cannot afford to leave. The tenants refuse to meet his eyes. The superintendent is gone without explanation. And from the basement rises a smell of copper and wet rot that no one will discuss. As Darren begins sorting through the previous owner's abandoned papers, he finds a ledger of names, his father's name among them, and a letter warning of a bargain struck with something beneath the foundation. Each former owner made a deal to keep the building standing. Each deal ended with a death. The Hollow, a hungry absence in the basement, remembers every promise, and it has already decided Darren owes a debt he never agreed to pay. Trapped residents begin disappearing one by one. A faceless figure rises from the stairwell. And Darren's own reflection starts speaking in his father's voice, urging him toward the only choice that might save what's left, or feed the dark forever. He can break the cycle and lose everything, or honor his father's final pact and become the next name in the ledger.
