Oil and Starlight
Mara Voss has spent years building a life far from the narrow lanes and lichen-covered walls of rural Dorset. But a hand-drawn map on the back of a funeral envelope has brought her back. As she drives deeper into the countryside in the dark, headlights catching the wet sheen of granite and the accusing faces of old stone, the distance she has traveled becomes harder to ignore. Waiting for her are Lily Chen, Callum Brennan, and Marcus Hale , the friends and family members who knew her before she left, who buried someone she loved while she was far away, and who carry questions she is not ready to answer. Among them is Dorset itself, the town that raised her and the place where she first learned to keep secrets. The road narrows until there is no room to turn around, and Mara realizes the past she has been running from is no longer behind her. It is ahead, waiting at the end of this lane. The question is whether she will arrive as the person she has become , or the one she left behind.
