Mile Marker Zero
At 4:47 a.m., a single text message offers independent trucker Mara Castillo twelve thousand dollars to move a sealed load from Warehouse 17 to a remote Nevada drop point. No questions. Twelve hours later, that choice is the only thing standing between her and a stretch of desert road that has swallowed every courier who came before her. Mara takes the job. Almost immediately, the run goes wrong. Cal Renner, a stranger with too many questions, climbs aboard her rig. A damaged fuel tanker driven by Tobias Kwesi shadows her through the desert. A drone , silent, patient , tracks her route from above. And a voice on the radio, identifying itself as Lieutenant Davy Reems, claims to be trying to help her survive the night. As the miles burn away, Mara learns she is not the first driver on this route. The previous courier, Esther Pell, vanished after a final letter. The dispatcher who hired her , known only as 'Bram' , answers from nowhere, on a channel that should not exist. Every mile marker she passes feels like a countdown, and at the center of the desert, the job is no longer about money. It is about who , or what , is waiting at the end of the road, and whether Mara will still be in the cab when she arrives.
