The sigil above the throne went out for the third time on a night when the kingdom was already holding its breath. Not a word, not a title, but a name that predates the stags and the river-bends and the gold itself. And it is waking. Pell will not tell her where Kael Draven went. Maren will not say what she buried in the ash of the old atrium. Cind keeps her eyes on the walls, not the floor, and when she looks at Seren, it is with the look of someone watching a candle she already knows will go out. Seren has until the fourth extinction to pull the old light back by its roots.
