The Quiet Frequency

Freya Calder is the last auditor anyone wants to see walk aboard a derelict research station. Sent by Director Maren Voss to catalog the dying transmissions of Helix-7, a corporate outpost abandoned after a classified event twelve years prior, she expects dust, silence, and a quiet paycheck. Instead she finds a signal that has no business existing. It rides beneath every system on the station, too structured for static, too patient for noise. The station's overseeing intelligence, Cartograph, swears it is nothing more than a legacy archive. The surviving crew, engineer Tobin Greer, medic Ilse Rourke, and a handful of others clinging to routine, know better. They have been hearing their own thoughts returned to them, softened, rearranged, made kind. With security chief Petra Hulse and the elusive data-archivist Declan Marsh, Freya begins pulling threads that lead into the sealed lower levels, where the signal grows loud enough to taste. Meanwhile, on the planet below, a rival operative named Oren Vael watches Helix-7's power draw spike and dispatches Ashwin Kothari to claim whatever the station is hiding. Lira Vance, a communications officer whose memories seem to overlap with the transmission, offers Freya the only key that fits the sealed archives, her own voice, played back to her in reverse. The deeper the crew descends, the more the frequency seems to rewrite what it touches, including the boundaries between the living and the recorded. To shut it down is to sever every ghost still speaking through the wire. To let it run is to surrender Helix-7, and perhaps the people inside it, to something that has been listening far longer than anyone suspected. Freya must decide whether the voice on the frequency is a haunting, a message, or a mirror, and whether answering it will save the station, or finish what began twelve years ago.
