The Hollowing Season
When solicitor Pryce delivers a handwritten letter to Maren Halloway on an ordinary Tuesday morning, it comes with an estate she never asked for , and a curse she cannot escape. The Halloway house has stood empty in a forgotten corner of New England for generations, and its current occupant, Arthur Halloway, has died under circumstances the local sheriff, Calvin Mott, would rather not investigate. Upon arriving at the decaying property, Maren is greeted by the housekeeper Mrs. Calloway, whose deference borders on devotion, and by the brooding groundskeeper Jonah Vance, who warns her to leave before the hollowing season begins. She stays. Inside the house, Maren discovers a diary written by her great-aunt Lidia Halloway, detailing how generations of Halloway wives vanished one by one , and how the entity known only as the Bride Figure rose to claim them. Strange photographs reveal a mother Maren never knew, and the estate's portrait gallery shifts when no one is watching. As autumn deepens and the entity grows bolder, Maren learns that escaping the house may cost more than her life; it may cost her identity itself.
