The Keeping Garden

A water-stained invitation, pressed flat against a flagstone door at dawn, draws Margot Lyle back to the one place she swore never to return: the Keeping Garden, a remote valley cottage where the hedges grow a little closer each year and the soil never quite lets go of what is buried in it. The name on the envelope is one Margot thought she had erased from her own history, signed by Mrs. Thorne , the woman who once kept her, and who keeps the garden still. Reluctantly, Margot brings along Callum Voss, the only friend she trusts with her silences, and Seren, the strange, silent child who has been appearing at the garden's edges for reasons no one can explain. Together they cross into the deeper beds, where the rows are older than the cottage and the roots twist in patterns too deliberate to be natural. What Mrs. Thorne has been tending is not a garden but a covenant.
